Introduction
Together, the cardiovascular and respiratory systems regulate heart rate, cardiac output, respiratory rate, and blood pressure. They play a role in temperature regulation and maintaining bodily homeostasis. Their output directly influences a person’s ability to participate in therapy interventions and activities of daily living.
This introductory course overviews the anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems using 3D visuals to provide foundational knowledge for rehabilitation professionals.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course you will be able to:
- discuss the key anatomical features and general physiology of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems
- differentiate between the two main phases of the cardiac cycle and how they affect heart sounds
- describe the mechanics of the two phases of breathing
Target audience
This course is aimed at Physiotherapy and Physical Therapy clinicians, students and assistants. Other interested professionals such as athletic trainers, occupational therapists, nurses or medical doctors interested in this subject are also invited to participate.
