Introduction

Generative AI (GenAI) is rapidly evolving and is used in more and more settings, including healthcare, rehabilitation, education and research. GenAI’s multimodal capabilities can be used to create text, audio, images, videos, and more. However, using GenAI effectively requires careful prompting. This course, the first in a series on AI, sets the scene, providing an overview of GenAI, before exploring how you can get the most out of GenAI through structured prompt writing.

At the end of this course you will be able to:

  • describe in general terms the basic features of Generative AI, focusing on its role as a next-word-predictor
  • differentiate between generative AI and traditional search engines, particularly in terms of data provenance and the generation of responses
  • identify effective prompting techniques for interacting with AI systems, including the use of structured prompts and providing contextual information
