Introduction

One of the biggest myths in learning is that some people are 'good' learners and others are 'bad' learners. However, learning is a skill, and we can get better at it. Habits play a crucial role in shaping our behaviours; they can either support or derail our attempts to learn. By consciously adopting new habits, learners can optimise their learning experience and achieve greater success. This course explores how to create new habits for learning to achieve improved academic outcomes.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course you will be able to:

  • discuss the key features of habits, habit formation and habit loops
  • list the major differences between habits and goals, and situational interest and individual interest
  • identify at least four ways to encourage habit formation in learners
