Introduction

Rehabilitation benefits individuals with acute and chronic conditions through reduced recovery time, improved functioning, and enhanced well-being. The World Health Organization (WHO) identifies it as essential health service, yet many cannot access appropriate rehabilitation or assistive technology services. This course explores WHO's definition of rehabilitation, focusing on essential interventions, optimising function, environmental impacts on health conditions, and assistive technology and its link to rehabilitation.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course you will be able to:

  • discuss the key components in the World Health Organization's definition of rehabilitation and the three components of assistive technology
  • describe at least three ways rehabilitation and assistive technology can work together to maximise patient recovery and independence
  • identify the global need for rehabilitation and assistive technology

Target audience

This course is aimed at rehabilitation professionals, students and assistants including but not limited to Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Rehabilitation Doctors, Rehabilitation Nurses, Prosthetists, Orthotists, Psychologists, Audiologists, Dietetics, Social Workers. Community Health Workers, Nurses or Medical Doctors interested in this subject are also invited to participate.
