Introduction
Worldwide, prostate cancer is the second most frequent cancer diagnosis and the fifth leading cause of cancer death in men. Fortunately, if it is diagnosed and appropriately treated early enough, it is a survivable form of cancer. This course provides an overview of the diagnosis and treatment options for prostate cancer and introduces key physiotherapy concepts on how to improve a patient’s quality of life after prostate cancer.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course you will be able to:
- describe the anatomy and function of the prostate
- explain the clinical presentation and risk factors of prostate cancer
- compare the various clinical tests and screenings for prostate cancer
- compare the medical treatment options for prostate cancer
- describe the role of physiotherapy before and after the medical treatment of prostate cancer
Target audience
This course is aimed at Physiotherapy and Physical Therapy clinicians, students and assistants. Other interested professionals such as athletic trainers, occupational therapists, nurses or medical doctors interested in this subject are also invited to participate.
