Introduction

Human feet allow bipedal locomotion, and they are an essential sensory structure for postural control. The foot structure is complex, consisting of many bones, joints, and ligaments. The foot is divided into three parts, and the muscles that cover the foot are separated into four layers. A clinician's ability to understand the anatomical structures of the foot is crucial for assessment and treatment planning. This course will explore all elements of foot anatomy using visual tools to explain the function of each part.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course you will be able to:

  • identify foot bones, joints and articulations
  • describe the origin, insertion, and roles of the key soft tissue structures of the foot region, including the ligaments and muscles
