Introduction
Selecting the appropriate dressing for a given burn wound is both an art and a science. The science supports the clinician's selection of an appropriate dressing type or topical agent based on the status of a wound. Unfortunately, there is very limited strong evidence available to support the use of any one dressing or bandaging protocol. The art of dressings is in selecting a specific dressing for each burn wound that facilitates healing and stays in place, allowing the patient to be mobile and perform functional activities.
This course explores the wide variety of dressings available and provides insight into the selection and application of commonly used dressings in burn care. It also overviews the standard of care in burn wound injury management and offers best practices for establishing a dressing change care plan.
