Introduction
Altitude training often forms part of an endurance athlete’s training programme as a strategy to improve performance. With an increase in altitude, there are various features that may influence an athlete’s performance such as a decrease in atmospheric pressure and partial pressure of oxygen. In this course, the environmental conditions at altitude and the physiological responses to altitude are discussed.
Aims
This course aims to provide knowledge of the environmental conditions at altitude, the physiological responses to elevation and how these affect exercise and sports performance.
