Introduction

Reflective practice enhances clinical reasoning, fosters confidence, promotes evidence-based care, and improves patient safety. Research indicates that healthcare professionals who engage in regular reflection make more informed decisions, learn from experiences more effectively, and deliver higher-quality care. This course equips healthcare professionals with practical, evidence-based tools for reflective practice. You'll learn to transform everyday clinical experiences into learning opportunities, strengthening your clinical reasoning, building confidence, and improving communication and patient outcomes through structured reflection.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course you will be able to:

  • identify the key components and frameworks of reflective practice used in healthcare settings
  • apply appropriate frameworks (Kolb's, Gibbs', Johns', Rolfe's, and Schön's models) to analyse clinical encounters and develop actionable improvement plans
  • discuss effective micro-reflection techniques for use during or immediately after clinical sessions
