When people come together there will often be conflict. In healthcare, conflict can occur between healthcare professionals and auxiliary staff during the healthcare delivery process and result in serious problems with significant consequences. A good leader can recognise the causes of conflict and is able to facilitate a conflict management process where all parties feel they have been heard and their needs met. This course will show you various conflict management styles and behaviours as well as lead you through a step by step conflict management process.
This course aims to introduce the learner to the Bell and Hart causes of conflict, a leader's role in conflict, the outcomes of conflict, the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Model and a 6 step conflict management process.
This course is made up of videos, reading, forum posts and a final quiz. The course content is split into the following sections:
- Reading activity
This course is aimed at Physiotherapy and Physical Therapy clinicians, students and assistants. Other interested professionals such as athletic trainers, occupational therapists, nurses or medical doctors interested in this subject are also invited to participate.
Hours of Learning - No deadlines are applied to this course and it can be started and completed in your own time according to your personal schedule. We expect the required elements to take around 1-1.5 hours depending on your schedule and learning style. Additionally there are many optional resources provided and if you choose to review these the course could take longer to complete.
Types of Activities - Reading Physiopedia pages, journal articles, book chapters. Watching videos. Attempting quizzes. Participating in an international discussion forum.
Certificates - At the end of the course, when you have completed all of the required elements, you will be able to download a certificate of completion and 1.3 Physioplus points will be added to your personalised learning dashboard.
Requirements to complete this course
In order to complete this course and receive a course completion certificate plus CEUs/CCUs/CPD points you will need to:

This course was very informative and has allowed me to improve my skills in leadership within not only my clinical work but every day life.
I really recommend this programme. All the leadership modules are amazing and really beneficial. I thought in a few situations in my practice that I am doing something wrong and I was blaming myself. However, after I went through these modules I saw the situations from a different perspective and received many new ideas for better management.
