Introduction
The pre-season or preparticipation physical evaluation is a common practice in many sports worldwide. These evaluations are designed to determine if an athlete is eligible to participate in their chosen sport. The exact format varies from country to country, sport to sport, coach to coach, and organisation to organisation. Although there is such variance, it is essential to remember that the health and safety of the athlete lie at the heart of this testing. Sports clinicians, such as physiotherapists, are well-qualified to be involved in the pre-season evaluation. However, it is critical that any sports clinician administering these evaluations is knowledgeable and trained to perform a competent examination to ensure the best outcome for each athlete.
