Introduction
The built environment is defined as the part of the physical environment that is constructed or modified by human activity. In sports, this can include structures such as sports stadiums, playing surfaces, equipment, buildings and transportation systems. Other aspects of the built environment include adequate lighting at a sports event, spectator behaviour and accommodation. Furthermore, athletes taking part in events outdoors are exposed to ultraviolet light, which can have short- and long-term effects on their health and well-being. The effect of the built environment and ultraviolet light in sports will be covered in this course.
