How do I export my activity log?

The Activity log page displays your ⁣Plus activity in a dynamic table that can be searched, reordered and filtered. You may wish to export your learning activity to:

  1. Share evidence of your learning with your employer, university or regulatory organisation.
  2. Save to your professional development portfolio or add to another ePortfolio system.

What are the requirements for my portfolio / ePortfolio?

If you have a paper based portfolio there are no compatibility requirements. Once you have downloaded your activity report, print a copy and add it to your portfolio.

If you have an ePortfolio, you will need to be able to add a new journal (blog, diary) entry and upload a file as part of this entry within this ePortfolio system. Download and save your Plus activity report as a PDF file and add this file when you add your related journal entry.

How do I export my learning activity data?

There are three options available for exporting your learning activity data from the Plus website.

1. The Print/Save report option provides a PDF file which can be printed, saved or shared.

  • Scroll down to the Print/Save report block, enter the appropriate time period and click Export activity report.
  • You will now view a report that summarises your learning activities and achievements recorded within the selected time period. You should be able to choose to save or print this report. If you have a paper portfolio, use the print facility. If you have an ePortfolio choose to save the report somewhere you will be able to find it.
  • Login to your ePortfolio and navigate to a journal (blog, diary) where you can add dated entries over time (e.g. for Mahara go to Create > Journals). If necessary select the appropriate journal and then click to Add a new entry.

  • Give your new entry an appropriate title. In the main entry content section, you may wish to summarise the highlights of your learning from this period and describe any changes to your practice you have implemented as a result.
  • Use the new entry’s Add a file facility to browse and upload your saved Plus activity report.

  • Save your new entry. You should now be able to see the entry listed in your ePortfolio journal (blog, diary) and the fact that a file has been attached to this entry will probably be displayed. You should be able to view the uploaded file by clicking on a link displayed as part of the saved entry.

2. The Analyse my activity option generates a CSV file which can be opened in spreadsheet software.

  • Go to My activity export/print page (on your Dashboard, click on the Activity log tab and then on the Export or print my activity log button).
  • Scroll down to the Analyse my activity block, enter the appropriate time period and click Export activity data as CSV.
  • A CSV file will be downloaded which you can use to import into a software such as a spreadsheet or database for analysis.

3. The Import into an ePorfolio option generates an XML file which can be uploaded into compatible systems.

  • Go to My activity export/print page (on your Dashboard, click on the Activity log tab and then on the Export or print my activity log button).
  • Scroll down to the Import into an ePortfolio block, enter the appropriate time period and click Export activity data as Leap2A.
  • You will now download and save an XML file called leap-export.xml. Make sure you save this somewhere you can find it.
  • Login to your ePortfolio.
  • Find the import facility within your portfolio (e.g. for Mahara go to Manage > Import). Choose the leap-export.xml file you downloaded from Plus and Import.

  • Once the import has been completed you can view your imported data in a new journal (blog) within your ePortfolio.

Why would I want to use this option?

This export-import method automatically adds a journal (blog) to your ePortfolio with a separate entry for each learning activity you have recorded on the Plus site (e.g. an entry for each resource you have read, viewed, etc.). These journal posts are tagged with Plus specific key words (i.e. by activity type, engagement level and learn topic) to allow you to navigate these individual activities easily within your portfolio. You can then edit these separate journal entries to optionally add reflections for each activity to create a detailed and rich learning record.

The alternative is to export and save a single PDF report from Plus for a selected time period and upload this to your ePortfolio as a single item (previously explained). This option is simpler but does not offer you the opportunity to search and add to the individual Plus activities within your ePortfolio.

What are the requirements for my ePortfolio?

Your ePortfolio must offer Leap2A import compatibility for this option to be relevant to you (e.g. both Mahara and Pebblepad offer this option). In addition your ePortfolio must offer the ability to have multiple journals or blogs so that the system can add a new journal/blog on import. In Mahara this is an account setting that may not be turned on (within Mahara go to Settings > Preferences and set item Multiple journals to Yes).
